Two new programs, Chinese and the Third Year Leadership Club, have been introduced at Bristow Montessori School. These new programs accompany the music, art and Spanish lessons that are already a part of the children’s day.
Last week, the Chinese classes began for the Primary students. The students are working hard on numbers, a few animals and vegetables, and a song about a white rabbit. We have been watching as the instructors help guide the children with such energy and enthusiasm. The children are happily chanting their newfound teachings that can be heard down the halls of the school.
The 3YL Club is the acronym for Third Year Leadership club. The third year of Montessori education is an important stage in a child’s development. It is in the third year that the child’s learning is fully internalized and their leadership role becomes a guiding force. All Kindergarten students in their third year of the Primary program have the opportunity to join this leadership club. Examples of 3YL Club events; Story Time for Toddlers, serving lunch to classrooms, planting the wildflower garden, leadership social events to foster teamwork, peace and environmental projects, leadership luncheons, community service, and outreach work. The teachers, students and parents are excited that this program has been implemented as we encourage our future leaders.
As the students continue to grow at Bristow Montessori School, we encourage these new programs so the children flourish with their own natural desire to learn.
